Lausitz is a district of the city of Bad Liebenwerda in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg and is four kilometers west of the city. Lausitz has about 300 inhabitants.
history
In 1197, Lausitz was first mentioned as Lusiz . The place name Lausitz von Łužica means something like lowland , marshland or brook in the lowland .
In 1243 Count Botho and Otto von Ileburg donated two wooden hooves to the Mühlberg monastery near the village. In 1391 the residents of the place paid the taxes to the church and castle chapel of Liebenwerda. In 1422 Lusicz became the personal treasure of Duchess Offka, who lived in the castle in Liebenwerda . In 1533 a chapel and 369 inhabitants were mentioned in the village. Severe fires broke out in 1583 and 1589. The place was almost completely destroyed except for two houses and four barns.
In the Thirty Years' War more fires followed. In 1637 it was said that there were only seven houses out of 30 farms. Of the former 30 families, eleven were still alive.
In 1701 a schoolmaster was mentioned. In 1725 lawn iron stone was mined between Lausitz and Liebenwerda and processed into iron in Lauch near Bockwitz .
In 1835, Lausitz had 37 houses with 252 inhabitants, 54 horses, 324 cattle, 5 goats and 57 pigs. In 1844 the community received permission to build its own school. In 1913 the place was electrified. The Lausitz volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1933 and since then has provided fire protection and general help, especially at local level.
In 1945 the school's bells fell victim to World War II , but were later replaced by four ship bells. The old school with its four bells in the gable is unique for this area.
In 1952 the LPG Helmut Just was founded and in 1973 the cooperative agriculture department. In 1974 the bell tower was built and in 1989 the new parish hall was handed over. On December 6, 1993, Lausitz was incorporated into the city of Bad Liebenwerda. Until then it belonged to the Bad Liebenwerda district .
