Local history

In the period between the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age , a rampart was built near the town as a refuge or protective castle. This earth castle measured about 400 meters in an oval. The castle wall was used by Germanic and Slavic tribes in later times . On the outskirts of the current village there is also a burial ground with urns and urns.

The place emerged around 1400 as a street village. In 1597 the first church in town was built. During the Napoleonic Wars in 1812, the peasants suffered from constant billeting of troops passing through. On April 16 of the same year a major fire destroyed several homesteads, the school and the old church. The subsequent rebuilding of the church collapsed in 1816, still unfinished. In 1817 the construction of today's church began, in which in 1870 a large and a small bell were installed in the church tower. In 1918 the small bell was removed for war purposes.

In 1921 a new small bell was hung and in 1939 the newly built school was moved into. In 1942 the big bell was used for war purposes.

Further construction work took place in the village later. The interior of the church was restored in 1955, a new large bell was installed in 1956 and a fire station was built in 1963 . In 1972 the first stables and the Burgwallhütte were built. In 1975 a new consumer building was built, which today houses the youth club, and in 1988 a multi-purpose building was built as a village community center .

After the fall of the Wall , numerous modifications were made in Kosilenzien. The village street, the sidewalks and the village lighting were renewed and water and sewage pipes were laid.

On December 6, 1993 Kosilenzien was incorporated into the city of Bad Liebenwerda.

Culture and sights

A castle wall built around 3000–4000 years ago in the Ziegram is now one of the ground monuments in the Elbe-Elster district. Located directly on the newly built cycle path, it invites you to linger, relax and also to discover. Many rare animal and plant species are at home here.

The Burgwallfest has been taking place on the Whitsun weekend since 1979. Every year, many relatives, friends and acquaintances meet at Whitsun on the castle wall.
