Haunting Ground is a survival horror game released by Capcom for the PlayStation 2 in 2005 .

action

After a car accident with her parents, 18-year-old Fiona Belli wakes up locked in a cage. She can free herself and henceforth has to flee in an old castle from various people who are trying to kill her. She receives help from the white German shepherd Hewie, whom she frees at the beginning and who is always at her side.

Gameplay

There are no zombies or monsters in Haunting Ground . The opponents consist of the backward gardener Debilitas, the apathetic looking housekeeper Daniella, the hooded guard Riccardo and the castle owner Lorenzo. These four characters appear one after the other and chase Fiona over certain stages of the game, with Lorenzo at the same time as the final boss.

Fiona has no weapons and her only option to defend herself is the German shepherd Hewie. With an appropriate order, she can rush him on her opponent and thus gain a head start to flee or hide. The "run-and-hide" principle is also used in other survival horror games, e.g. B. Clock Tower or Exhumed .

When Fiona confronts an opponent, she panics. This manifests itself in the fact that her vision becomes blurred and she increasingly loses her motor skills. The greater Fiona's panic, the more difficult it is to control. This makes them easier prey for their opponents.

Haunting Ground consists to a certain extent of puzzles. As with most survival horror games, you have to find objects, set devices in motion, etc. in order to get ahead. What is new is that you can get help with this. The dog Hewie can not only defend Fiona from opponents, but also proves to be useful in some puzzles.
