Main freight station
Analogous to the main train station at passenger stations , a freight yard is referred to as a main freight station ( Hgbf for short ) if it plays a prominent role among several freight stations in a city or area due to its location or handling .
The following main freight stations exist or exist in Germany:
- Hamburg main freight station (official name since 1964, before that Hamburg Hgbf Han , opened in 1892 as Venloer Bahnhof , from 1892 Hannoverscher Bahnhof , until the opening of the main station in 1906 also passenger station , closed in 1999),
- Main freight station Hanover (opened in 1877, closed in 1997),
- Frankfurt (Main) main freight station (opened in 1888, closed in 1996),
- Mannheim main freight station in the Mannheim trading port and
- Nuremberg main freight station (opened in 1876, closed in 1999)
