The main church is the oldest of the five Protestant churches in the Wiesbaden district of Biebrich . It is located at the northern end of the Biebrich Castle Park in the center of the former village of Mosbach.

history

The main church was first mentioned in a document in 1085. Until the Reformation it belonged as a Catholic church to the Archdiocese of Mainz and at times to various monasteries, most recently to Eberbach Monastery in the Rheingau . In 1543, the then Nassau rulers introduced the Lutheran creed. In 1560, Protestant services were held for the first time in the main church.

During the Thirty Years War the church was so badly damaged that it was necessary to demolish and rebuild it. The new church building, inaugurated in 1716 by Johann Jakob Bager , served as the court church for the princes of Nassau , who had their summer residence in Biebrich Castle since the beginning of the 18th century , and even their main residence at times. In 1882 the church was completely renovated, with three new bells and a new organ .

The main church survived the two world wars almost undamaged.
