The House of Alam ( Persian خانه اعلم, IPA : xɑnɛ jɛ ælæm ) is a historic house in the Iranian city of Isfahan , built in the 18th century by a nobleman from the Qajar dynasty. It was initially used as a place of business, but was soon converted into a guest house.

The entrance area ( hashti ) is on the south side. From there, through an elongated corridor ( rahro ), which served as a dining room, one reaches an inner courtyard with a fountain and gardens around which the residential buildings are grouped. The large reception hall north of the courtyard is most richly decorated . In front of her is a pillar veranda with seven sliding windows . It was decorated with stucco work and mirror decoration. Large doors adorned with marquetry lead from the reception hall to the adjacent rooms. The buildings to the east and west are planned and constructed identically. Here, too, there are large halls from which one can access the smaller rooms. All parts of the house were masterfully decorated with bricks , ceramic tiles and stucco and gilded , the windows are painted in many colors . The clear water of the Houzes in the middle of the courtyard reflects the beauty of the house.

As part of a restoration program launched in 1990, the building was repaired until 2001. These extensive efforts to preserve Isfahan's historical heritage were recognized with the 2001 Aga Khan Award for Architecture .
