history

The first residents of the House of Emte (around 900 Emnithi) were a knight family of the same name. In analogy to the von Merfeld family, the family led a sloping grid in the coat of arms. 1226 Thiderik von Emete is the first to bear the name. He was also in possession of a castle loan at Haus Dülmen . The last bearer of the name was Johan von Emete in 1450. His heir, Olderadis, brought the property into her marriage with Dietherich von Hamern zu Billerbeck.

One of the first mentions is in 1478 that knight Dietrich von Horst came into possession of the house. Between 1481 and 1619 the property then belonged to Goswin von Raesfeld zu Ostendorf. This is how the Raesfeld line to Em (p) te came about. After the line died out, the manor came to the Lords of Raesfeld zu Visbeck, also in today's parish. The Lords of Westerholt zu Hackfurt took possession of the house in 1633.

In 1708 the owner changed again, now the von Merveldt family - together with Lembeck Castle . They renewed the mansion. A new building was built between 1767 and 1770, but the upper floor was demolished again in the 19th century. The one-story house made of quarry stone still exists today in the same way it was then. It has 7 axles on the long side, the roof has the shape of a hipped roof. The moat in the form of a double moat ring was filled in, the gatehouse comes from an older building era.
