Burghaus Classen / Haus Ficht, Aachen

The Burghaus Classen (also known as Haus Ficht) is an upper-class residential building in Aachen , Fichthang 20.

The asymmetrical complex on an irregular floor plan was built from 1899 to 1900 according to a design by the architect Friedrich Pützer in a formerly spacious forest park for the cloth manufacturer Martin Classen, which is why it was initially called Burghaus Classen. In 1920 Hubert Etschenberg bought the house, now commonly referred to as Haus Ficht , and used it as a rental property. Just five years later it was acquired by Emil Brauer senior, founder and owner of the Aachen umbrella factory Brauer , who had it completely renovated by the architects Josef Bachmann and Alexander Lürken, who also subsequently designed his factory building in Jülicher Straße.

The building remained in the possession of the Brauer family until 1998 and for three generations before it was fundamentally modernized by the architect Karl Heinz Ritter and transferred to a new buyer.

The architecture of the house made of quarry stone and half-timbering is based on the medieval castle construction. The interior, including wall coverings and furniture, has largely been preserved. The building is a listed building .
