House Grünewald

House Grünewald is a villa with an English landscape garden in Solingen - Gräfrath and is protected as a monument . Because of its representative appearance, the property is also known colloquially as Grünewald Castle .

The property goes back to a medieval farm. The current building was erected between 1817 and 1824; the façade slate dates from the second half of the 19th century. From 1843 to 1861 the property belonged to the ophthalmologist Friedrich Hermann de Leuw . In 1847 his fourth son Constantin named it as his home address. Under his first son, the landscape painter Friedrich August de Leuw , it was rebuilt and expanded until 1866. The Düsseldorf branch of the Piedbœuf family , through Jean Louis Piedbœuf , who also died here in 1891, acquired the property in 1880, which remained in the family until 1997 and has always served as a renowned meeting place for the extensive family.
