House Wintersohl was a manor in what is now the Königsburg part of the city of Werdohl in the Märkisches Kreis .

geography

The Wintersohl house was on the left bank of the Lenne on a slight hill at approx. 190  m above sea level. NHN across from the district of Kettling.

history

The property was first mentioned in a document in 1388 in connection with the capture of the knight Engelbert Haver von Wintersohl by the Duke von Berg. The knight undertook to return to captivity punctually in response to a letter summoned. This was related to the usual ransom demand. At the end of the 15th century, a descendant of Engelbert appears in Rötger Haver von Wintersohl. This was a vassal of the Duke von Berg. Count Dietrich von der Mark quickly confiscated the Wintersohl house and gave the property to the knight Heydenreich von Plettenberg as a fief . In 1629 the von Mumm family acquired the manor. In April 1754, the farm and its associated lands and rights were forcibly auctioned off. Over time, the owners changed several times until the dilapidated property was demolished at the end of the 20th century.

Building description

The manor consisted of a main house and several auxiliary buildings. The complex was surrounded by a ditch. The main house was built as a kind of tower with several floors. The cellar above ground was provided with loopholes. The outer walls were up to two meters thick. The individual floors were connected by a spiral staircase.

A mill on the Verse, hunting and fishing rights belonged to the manor.
