Port history
The construction of the first railway in West Germany by the Düsseldorf-Elberfelder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1838 connected the city with the early industrialized areas in the Bergisches Land. Düsseldorf thus also became the port for today's Wuppertal. In 1974 it was decided to downsize the port. In a restructuring process that lasted decades, today's Medienhafen with the Rhine Tower , Landtag North Rhine-Westphalia , WDR Funkhaus Düsseldorf and Gehry buildings was created.
Chamber of Architects
In 1999, in a Europe-wide competition, the design by the Darmstadt office werk.um was awarded second prize and was later commissioned to implement it. In 2002 the House of Architecture was occupied by the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects. It has served as an information and communication center ever since. Exhibitions are regularly presented in the foyer. Further training courses take place in the hall. Brochures and an architectural guide to the Medienhafen are available at reception. The house always opens on the night of the museums .

The building is located between Zollhof and Kaistraße, practically at the entrance to the Medienhafen. It is triangular and extends over seven floors. The curved glass facade gives lightness and radiates dynamism. There is a public restaurant on the ground floor. Due to its proximity to the government district of Düsseldorf, the chamber has an address in a prime location for politics and administration.
