The House of Milutin Milankovitch is a cultural monument in Serbia . It is located in Belgrade , in the Palilula Municipality , at 9 Ljubomi Stojanović Street.

The building

The house was built in 1927 within the then newly founded "Professor Colony". From 1926 residential buildings were built in the area of the colony with favorable loans from the Treasury, and at first the owners of the houses were exclusively employees of the University of Belgrade .

The professorial colony with the radial road system and the semicircular square followed the urban planning ideas and the idea of garden cities that were current in the third decade of the 20th century. In addition to uniform allocation, the colony also required a unified type of building. Most of the buildings in the professors' colony were built on the basis of standardized projects built by architects Svetozar Jovanović, Mihailo Radovanović and Petar Krstić in early 1926.

The Milutin Milanković house project was also signed by architects Jovanović, Radovanović and Krstić. It is a modest mansion, similar to the other houses in the professors' colony. The facades were simple, but in terms of architectural and urban value it represents an example of the idea of colonies or garden cities.

The greatest value of the house lies in the fact that Milutin Milanković (1879–1958) lived here. He was not only a Serbian, but also a world scientist, professor, academic whose interests ranged from mathematics to the construction and reforms of the Julian calendar, to the famous geophysical theory, such as the astronomical theory of the glacier era. In his honor, a moon crater and an asteroid in the solar system were named after him.

Today, the only evidence that Milutin Milanković lived and worked in this house is a plaque, as his heirs do not live in it.
