The Hausburgpark is located in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg in the street block of Hermann-Blankenstein-Strasse, Hausburgstrasse, Otto-Ostrowski-Strasse and Thaerstrasse.
history
The park is located on the site of the city's central cattle and slaughterhouse, which was closed in 1995 . The Senate of Berlin is developing the approximately 50 hectare area as the Alter Schlachthof development area with new roads and the construction of residential and commercial buildings. The park is part of this development area. It is named after the former administrative director Otto Hausburg (1831–1920). In 2003 the city opened the park to the public.
Design
In the park there is a playground with a basketball court. At the northern end there is a water tower built in 1909, which was built to stabilize the water supply on the site. During the Second World War , the tower was badly damaged and rebuilt, shortened by 18 meters. An adjacent junk shop tore down the city between 1997 and 2003 and renovated the remaining part of the tower.
