The Hauserhof

The Hauserhof is a building of the office of the Upper Austrian provincial government in the provincial capital Linz . It is located at Kärntnerstraße 10-12 and is a listed building .

history

After the premises in the country house had become too small, it was decided to build a new official building. The Hauserhof, named after Governor Prelate Johann Nepomuk Hauser , was built between 1950 and 1953 under Governor Heinrich Gleißner . This can also be seen on a plaque in the foyer. The planner was the regional building department of Upper Austria (Upper Austria) under architect Hans Foschum ; Pirkl & Eysert was responsible for the construction management .

It is a monumental four-wing, eight-storey building block at a significant urban location opposite the main station area between Kärntner- and Böhmerwaldstrasse. It is an objectively designed structure with a prominent staircase tower. Smooth, additively designed facades with stone facades on the main floor complete the building. The Landesdienstleistungszentrum (LDZ) was built on the opposite side of Kärntnerstraße in 2004, creating a transition from this to the Hauserhof on the first floor, which architecturally does not fit into the post-war modernist facade. In 2007 the Hauserhof was extensively renovated.

use

In addition to its permanent use as the official building of the Upper Austrian state government, a branch of the Linz municipal library was located in the building in the 1950s. It also housed the Hauserhof police guard room until 2006, before it moved to the main train station.
