House figure
A house figure is the representation of a person on a secular building . They can be attached to buildings as statues or statuettes on a pedestal or in a niche, or they can be walled into the building as a relief or three-dimensional representation. The vast majority are incarnations of saints . Historical house figures are usually under monument protection .
In the area of the former bishopric of Würzburg there are still numerous house figures with depictions of saints. The vast majority here are depictions of Mary. The so-called Nordheim Madonna is particularly valuable in terms of art history , although it was originally placed in the Würzburg Cathedral.
