Haute volée polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haute Volée-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 155). The work was performed for the first time on August 17, 1854 in the Volksgarten in Vienna .

Remarks

The polka was composed and performed on the occasion of a summer concert by the Strauss Chapel. The name Haute Volée is derived from a group of people not tied to the classic social classes such as the nobility, bourgeoisie and workers, whose members could theoretically belong to any of these classes. The Haute Volée group paid attention to careful, fashionable clothing, emphasized good behavior and took part in social events. In short, those who thought what of themselves belonged to this genre. With the naming, Strauss suggested to his audience that he attributed it to the group of Haute Volées . That was of course well received. It is also sometimes assumed that the work is a birthday greeting to KaiserFranz Joseph I , who turned 24 on August 18, 1854.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 21 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
