Willy Hautvast

Johannes (Wilhelmus) Willy Hautvast (born August 31, 1932 in Maastricht ; † May 6, 2020 in Nijmegen ) was a contemporary Dutch composer .

As the son of a professional musician, his own professional career, as well as that of his brother Guus Hautvast , who played as an oboist in the Promenade Orchestra, was predetermined. He graduated from the Maastricht Conservatory with a major in clarinet .

He then signed up as a musician with the wind orchestra of the Dutch Air Force ( Kapel van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht ) as a clarinetist and later as an arranger. From around 1960 he published the first manuscripts of his arrangements and compositions. In 1970 he was awarded the Hilvarenbeek Community Music Prize for his composition Festal Suite . In 1974 he was entrusted with the management of the wind department at the music school in Nijmegen . He also worked as a conductor.

Willy Hautvast died in May 2020 at the age of 87.
