The Havnarkórið [ haunaɹˌkɔuɹɪ ] ( Faroese for: the choir Tórshavn ) is a 1966 in Torshavn ( Faroe established) choir .
The choir's extensive repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary Faroese music. As a specialty, the choir also demonstrates Faroese chain dances , which date back to the Middle Ages.
The choir was initially founded as a radio choir by Útvarp Føroya . International concert tours made Havnarkorið known beyond the borders of Denmark. An outstanding event in the concert life of the choir was the performance in New York's Carnegie Hall in 2004.
The choir has been led by Ólavur Hátún since it was founded .
The renowned Faroese singer Eivør Pálsdóttir has already accompanied the choir as a soloist.
