Haw syndrome

As Haw syndrome refers to a mostly two-sided incident, the third eyelid in cats with no other changes in the eye. The cause is unknown, suspected toxins from parasites or endotoxins from the gastrointestinal tract, which lead to a disruption of the sympathetic innervation . Other causes of a nictitating membrane prolapse (poisoning, Horner's syndrome , feline dysautonomy , nictitating gland prolapse , cachexia , phthisis bulbi , conjunctivitis ) can be excluded from the differential diagnosis . Treatment consists of giving phenylephrine in the form of eye drops.
