The Haydnhof is an urban residential complex in Vienna - Meidling . It was built from 1928 to 1929 according to plans by August Hauser .

Building description

The facility is located at Gaudenzdorfer Gürtel 15 and is bordered by Arndtstrasse, Siebertgasse and Steinbauergasse. The Haydnhof is a typical social residential building in Red Vienna from the interwar period. The facility was designed for 304 apartments and encloses a spacious inner courtyard with a day care center. The mostly smooth facades are structured by projecting and recessed components, balconies and loggias.

history

August Hauser's plans emerged from a competition as the winning project. After 1926, the Haydn Park was created on the site of the former Hundsturm cemetery, where at the time the composer Joseph Haydn buried and his grave stone was erected in the park, the city called the location very close to new housing development after the composer. A sign on Arndtstrasse draws attention to this.

During the Austrian Civil War , the Haydnhof was occupied on February 12, 1934 by members of the Schutzbund , who fired at the police who were attacking the Reumannhof opposite . Thereupon the executive, armed with heavy weapons, stormed the Haydnhof on the same day. However, there were still some firefights on the morning of the next day.
