The Hayes Bank ( English ) is a submarine bank in the Antarctic Ross Sea . It is centrally located in front of the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf .
It was named by the New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 2004. It is named after the American geophysicist Dennis Hayes of Columbia University , who carried out extensive research on board the USNS Eltanin as part of the United States Antarctic Research Program in the 1960s and 1980s Antarctica operated.
