action

Headus "Head" Mouthion and Footus "Heels" Underium are two spies of the planet Freedom. They were sent to Blacktooth to free the enslaved planets Penitentiary, Safari, Book World, and Egyptus, and then defeat the ruler. Captured and separated, the spies were deposited in the prison headquarters of Blacktooth Castle and must first escape and then get to the planets to regain the stolen crowns. The liberation of the planets and the defeat of the ruler will let Head and Heels escape as heroes in freedom.

Ritman admitted that the game story lacks a real connection to gameplay.

Game principle and technology

The player controls two figures, head and heels. These have different abilities: Head can jump twice as high as Heels, change direction in the air and shoot donuts from a horn to immobilize enemies; Heels can run twice as fast, climb certain stairs that Head cannot, and carry objects around the room with a bag. The game world comprises more than 300 rooms.

Head Over Heels uses an isometric representation similar to that produced using the filmation technique developed by Ultimate Play The Game .

Production notes

Head Over Heels is the second isometric game developed by Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond after Batman . Drummond contributed some surreal points, including robots whose head bears a remarkable resemblance to the head of Prince Charles and who sits on the body of a Dalek , and there were enemies with elephant heads and stairs made of dogs that teleported away when Head hit the Entered the room.
