Heather Heyer (born May 29, 1985 - August 12, 2017 in Charlottesville , Virginia ) was an American paralegal and civil rights activist.

Heather Heyer was killed in a counter-demonstration to a far-right demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia. It became a symbol of civil rights.

The assassin, James Alex Fields Jr., accelerated sharply and raced into a crowd on a narrow downtown street. In the attack, 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed and 19 other participants were injured. He was found guilty of murder by a jury in December 2018 and received 419 years in prison.

Heyer's last words were posted on Facebook: "If you don't get upset, just don't look."

In December 2017, 4th Street in Charlottesville was renamed Heather Heyer Way in her honor .
