Heavens-Above is a non-profit website developed by Chris Peat. The site is maintained by him and operates under Heavens-Above GmbH, Munich.

application

The website is dedicated to providing assistance to those interested in tracking and observing satellites without using optical equipment ( telescope , telescope ).

The website generates detailed star maps on which the satellite orbits are shown. The orbits are shown in front of the starry background in such a way that if you look up you will find the orbit between the stars. The site pays special attention to the ISS and Iridium flares . The website also provides information on currently visible comets , asteroids and planets .

Example of a path tracking (tracking) from Heavens-Above. An observer in Sicily can see the International Space Station when it reaches the circle at 9:26 p.m. The observer would see a bright object in the sky, which rises (appears) in the northwest and moves across the sky to a point overhead and then sets (disappears) within three minutes.

The user clicks on a point on the map and enters his location. Lists with astronomical objects , their apparent brightness , the time of rise and the direction in which they rise are calculated and output. Space stations, rockets, satellites, space debris as well as the sun , moon and planets are displayed.
