Hebes Chasma is a Chasma (deep canyon or crevice) on the northern edge of the Valles Marineris rift system on Mars . It is located at latitude 1.1 degrees south and longitude 76.2 degrees west between the Martian equator and the Valles Marineris, east of the Tharsis region .
description
Hebes Chasma is a completely closed depression of the Martian surface, with no drainage to the nearby Echus Chasma in the west, the Perrotin crater in the southwest and the Valles Marineris in the south. Its maximum extent is approx. 320 km in east-west direction, 130 km in north-south direction and up to 8 km deep. In the center of the depression there is a large table mountain-like elevation with a height of up to 7 km, which is almost as high as the surrounding area. This central plateau makes Hebes Chasma a unique valley in the geography of Mars.
