Hecataeus is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the front of the moon , southeast of the Mare Fecunditatis , northwest of the large Humboldt crater , at the edge of which it is directly connected.

The rim is eroded, the interior is uneven and has tracks of the overlay of the edge of the crater side Hecataeus K on.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek geographer and philosopher Hekataios of Miletus .
