Brick courtyard

The courtyard Hehn 59 is in the district Hehn in Mönchengladbach ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ).

The building was built in 1855. It was entered under No. H 108 on June 10, 2010 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

The courtyard is located in what was once a purely rural area on the outskirts of Hehn, which has been densified in recent years due to the construction of single-family houses .

architecture

It is a closed and representatively designed brick four-sided courtyard . Projecting from the building line , eaves , two-storey, five-axis residential building under a gable roof . The representative façade has a central axial entrance to the house and a dwarf house on the top floor. Flat-stepped and plastered spray base, on the ground floor framed with natural stone , double-winged front door.

The entrance to the house is framed by two tall rectangular windows with original wooden window frames . The ground floor is completed by a brick cornice designed as a "German band". The upper floor shows five vertical rectangular windows with original wooden window frames. A multi-part cornice follows the eaves , the dwelling has a round window.

The courtyard facade of the residential building has been redesigned in a modern way through the subsequent break-in of large, rectangular windows and a balcony porch on the upper floor. A lower, eaves-mounted, two-story and two-axis extension connects to the western gable side , which is only windowed by a vertical rectangular window on the ground floor and the attic . The original wooden window frames have been preserved.

The east gable wall of the main house only has a window in the attic with an original wooden window frame. The east gable is set back by the eaves-mounted gatehouse with a basket arched passage, dated keystone and two-winged wooden gate. A window axis divides the two-story street facade. The saddle roof is hipped on one side to the stable building that adjoins at right angles , which is now used as a horse stable .

A covered parking space for equipment and trolleys is attached to the gate building. The rear part of the large brick barn closes off the inner courtyard, which is accessed through a large gate. The roof structure and roofing have recently been renewed. Between the barn and the house is the former cattle barn, for which a change of use is currently being planned to convert it into an apartment. An annex to the cattle barn to the west is to be regarded as a non-monumental component.

The farm is dated to 1855, but was not built in one go. On the basis of construction seams, structural changes and interventions in the building fabric, it can be seen that the courtyard has been expanded or rebuilt several times. Exact data are not available on this.

The courtyard has largely been preserved in its original state and is in a neat structural condition.
