The Heiðarfjall is a mountain on the peninsula Langanes in the north of Iceland .
The 230 m high mountain is located 16 northeast of the city of Þórshöfn . On its eastern part, NATO operated a radar station from 1954 to 1968 . The short film Misty Mountain by Óskar Thór Axelsson tells a fictional story about it. After the withdrawal, PCB-containing pollutants and lead batteries remained. In 1989 NATO built a new radar station on Gunnólfsvíkurfjall, the highest mountain on the Langanes peninsula at 719 meters.
