Heath Lipecky

Heide Lipecky (* 1943 ) is a German translator .

Lipecky joined the magazine Sinn und Form in 1967 . As early as 1969 she was allowed to interview Hugh MacDiarmid for issue 6. She worked for 40 years as an editor for the magazine, for which she also wrote as an author. Lipecky is an expert on English and American literature. Wilhelm Girnus , editor-in-chief of the magazine Sinn und Form , praised her literary taste and knowledge in the selection of American and Canadian literature. Lipecky was one of the employees of Sinn und Form who, even in times of upheaval, were able to guarantee the literary continuity of the magazine. ( "During such periods of uncertainty the journal was sustained by the continuity which figures such as Lipecky were able to provide." )

She translated u. a. Works by Eric Voegelin and René Girard from the English . She was also responsible for editing the third volume of Jean-Henri Fabre's Memoirs of an Entomologist ( Souvenirs Entomologiques III ) from the French .

From 1971, together with Ewald Festag and Ingrid Eitlinger, she published the textbook English for You: Extended course (People and Knowledge), which was used for English lessons at all high schools in the GDR, and thus helped shape the image of England and America in the GDR .

In 1974 Lipecky's translation of a short story by Walter Kaufmann was published by Verlag der Nation in East Berlin under the title And what will you do tomorrow? ; the collection of stories had the German title Am Kai der Hoffnung .

In 1975 Lipecky submitted the translation of Richard Yates' novel Revolutionary Road from the American under the title The Year of Empty Dreams . The book was published by the East Berlin publisher Volk und Welt and was the only German translation that appeared during Yates' lifetime. In another translation, the work was republished in German in 2002 under the now known title Zeiten des Aufruhrs .

After the fall of the Wall she was employed at the Academy of Arts in Berlin . At that time she supported u. a. Stephen Parker researching his Huchel biography and edited Erich Loest .
