Publishing House of the Nation

The publisher of the nation ( VdN for short ) was the party publisher of the National Democratic Party of Germany founded in East Berlin in 1948 . It was one of the most renowned book publishers in the GDR and mainly published biographies , contemporary aesthetic literature, classic editions and classic travel reports . Today he belongs to the Husum publishing group .

The publishing program also included historical novels, translations by Central and Eastern European authors and richly illustrated anthologies. Around 1000 titles were on offer. The authors include Wolfgang Borchert , Fritz Böttger , Günther Deicke , Kurt Arnold Findeisen , Franz Fühmann , Jutta Hecker , Günter Hofé , Curt Hotzel , Dieter Lattmann , Reuter , Joachim Specht and Johannes Tralow .

After the fall of the Wall, the publishing house was threatened with extinction. It was taken over in 1992 by the publisher Diethard H. Klein and thus saved from liquidation. In 1998 he was integrated into the Husum publishing group .
