Heiko Nickel

Heiko Nickel (born February 5, 1962 in Flensburg ) is a former German professional footballer.

career

The Flensburger Nickel first played in his youth at VfB Nordmark Flensburg , before moving to Holstein Kiel via Blau-Weiß Friedrichstadt in the former Oberliga Nord (comparable to today's regional league ). Borussia Mönchengladbach signed him in 1982 , and in the 1984/85 season he was initially part of the professional squad as a contract amateur. Due to good performance in the amateur team, Jupp Heynckes brought him to the Bundesliga team of Gladbach in 1985. Nickel did not get a chance there, however, but was only a reservist. However, he was placed in the DFB junior round , which the Gladbach team won in 1983 and 1985. In 1986, Nickel left the Bundesliga again and moved back to SV Holstein Kiel in the Oberliga Nord. He later played again in his hometown of Flensburg .

In 2004, Nickel was appointed to the prominent team of the North Baltic Sea selection .
