DFB youth round

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DFB youth round was a competition of the DFB . It was played from 1979 to 1983. Similar competitions followed in 1985–1986 as the Adi-Dassler Cup and 1995–1996 as the Bundesliga reserve round.

description

The purpose of this competition was to give talented young players who had a professional contract in the Bundesliga a chance to practice matches. Most young talents sat on the bench in their clubs and were hardly or not at all used. The teams were mostly thrown together and then competed against each other. Often they played in smaller places. It is not to be confused with the ETT junior round ( European Talents Tournament ).

Similar competitions

In 1985 and 1986, the Adi Dassler Cup was held as the successor to the youth round, followed by the so-called Bundesliga reserve round in 1995 and 1996 . The competition has been suspended since then. In the recent past there have always been discussions about a new introduction, especially the trainer Michael Skibbe had advocated it. Particularly after the introduction of the 3rd division , some are calling for a new round of youngsters.

Mode of the Bundesliga reserve round 1994/95

The Bundesliga reserve round, or license league reserve round, of the German Football Association took place between August 30, 1994 and May 23, 1995. It was a private game series without promotion and relegation with a total of 26 teams. All 18 Bundesliga clubs and six other second division clubs took part, although their involvement was voluntary. The three Bundesliga relegated clubs and the top-ranked second division clubs of the previous season had the option to participate in this new round of young talent. The reserve round was held in three groups of eight teams each with a return leg. There were a total of 168 group matches. The results were compiled in tables. The first in the group played the overall winner in a final round.

Licensed, amateur and youth players were allowed to play in the reserve round. It was planned that the games should always take place on Tuesdays, except on match days of the European Cup. Then a final round with the three group winners was held. Alternatively, you could play on Saturdays. In every match, two guest players could be used and up to five players could be substituted. Participation in the new round was mandatory for all first division clubs. The German Football Association charged 30,000 marks per game for "culpable non-appearances". In addition, the teams were financially supported with a total of 600,000 marks.
