The Heilangau was a medieval Gaugrafschaft on the left bank of the Lower Elbe . The most important places in Heilangau are Bremervörde , Buxtehude , Harburg and Stade .

Heinrich built a castle in Harsefeld from which the Gau was administered from then on. In the 11th century the headquarters of the county was moved to Stade and the county was then named after this new seat.
