The Heilig-Geist-Kapelle in Offenau in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg was built in 1953 and belongs to the Evangelical parish of Jagstfeld in the Weinstadt-Neuenstadt church district of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

history

Offenau, which was once part of the Teutonic Order, was purely Catholic until the order was secularized and the transition to Württemberg . With the intensification of the salt works in the 19th century, Protestants also came to the village, but they did not form their own communities at first, but instead visited the Protestant churches in the surrounding villages of Wimpfen and Jagstfeld . Around 1900 there were between 60 and 90 Protestants in town. The number of Protestants rose to around 150 by World War II , but there were still no church buildings. Rather, church services took place in Ms. Bergrat Bohnert's apartment.

After the Second World War, the number of Protestants in Offenau doubled to about 300 people who were looked after by the vicariate in Jagstfeld. Their services now took place in the Offenau kindergarten. Many of the Offenau Protestants had helped with the construction of the community hall in Jagstfeld, so that after its completion, plans were also forged for a church building in Offenau. A plot of land on the southern outskirts was found as a building site. The construction of the chapel was carried out according to the plans of the architect Hannes Mayer, also with a lot of personal contribution from the Offenau Protestants.

Prelate Lempp laid the foundation stone of the chapel on March 15, 1953 and also gave the ceremonial address for the inauguration on July 5, 1953.

The chapel is looked after by the parish office in Bad Friedrichshall -Jagstfeld.

description

The Heilig-Geist-Kapelle in Offenau is a rectangular plastered building with a tent roof crowned by a small turret . The Stuttgart glass artist Adolf Valentin Saile created the altar window in 1953 with the motif crucifixion . Later, the local artist Herlinde Schlepp decorated the window in the entrance area with the motif of the Holy Spirit .

While the chapel was initially just a rectangular structure, it has since been expanded to include a side extension and a vestibule in front.
