Hannes Mayer (architect)
Hannes Mayer (born June 13, 1896 in Ulm ; † January 3, 1992 in Stuttgart , officially Hans Ernst ) was a German architect and construction clerk .
Mayer studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart and initially worked as an assistant to his teacher Paul Schmitthenner , whom he supported in 1933 in planning the Kochhofsiedlung . In addition to the Christ Church in Reutlingen (1935/1936), he also designed the Protestant St. Thomas Church in Stuttgart-Kaltental in 1938 .
From 1940 to 1945 he was in charge of the building construction department in Heilbronn . After the war, it is thanks to him that the Heilbronn churches, Nikolaikirche and Kilian's Church, which were destroyed in the air raid on Heilbronn in 1944, were secured and restored. He also built the Pauluskirche at Karlstrasse 33, which was demolished in 1972 in favor of a new building, and the foundation stone was laid on October 3, 1948. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on February 12, 1949. The architecture of the sacred building, which was demolished in 1972, was characterized by simplicity and simple beauty; the material (wood) shaped the interior of the sacred building:
“The overall building, which connects the prayer room and the parish hall, is characterized by its stylish simplicity and clarity in its external lines and interior furnishings. Above all, the church interior itself with the large gray walls and the warm wood tones of the ceiling and the chairs breathes real consecration in its simple beauty. "
