Hermann Zabel

Hermann Zabel (born September 22, 1832 in Neu-Katzow near Greifswald , † April 26, 1912 in Gotha ) was a German, Prussian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Zabel "; earlier the abbreviation “ Zab. " in use.

Live and act

Zabel specialized in dendrology . From 1854 to 1860 he was an assistant at the Botanical Garden and Museum in Greifswald. From 1869 to 1895 he was director of the forest academy in Hannoversch Münden .

Honors

The plant genus Zabelia (Rehder) Makino from the honeysuckle family (Caprifoliaceae) has been named in his honor.
