Sveti Križ

The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Cross ( Croatian Crkva svetog Križa ) in Nin , Croatia was built around the year 800 and was probably initially the episcopal church of the abolished Diocese of Nin . It is known as the "smallest cathedral in the world" and is 7.80 m long, 7.60 m wide and 8.20 m high.

The central building consists of a towering rotunda surrounded by four short naves in the shape of a Greek cross . The windowless, rectangular chancel is flanked on the side by apse calottes; the opposite side of the entrance is highlighted by a bell gable. The dimensions of the church walls, the doors and the windows were adapted to the different lighting conditions within a year and also within a day. It could also serve as a calendar and clock.

This evidence of Croatian architecture from the pre-Romanesque period is one of the best preserved buildings from that time.
