The Holy Cross Church (Polish Kościół św. Świętego Krzyża ) in Krakow is a Catholic church on pl. Św Ducha 2 in the northern part of Kraków's Old Town . It was given to the Hospitallers by the Holy Spirit in 1244 .
history
The church was consecrated before 1200 by Bishop Fulko (Bishop from 1185). The church was handed over to the Order of the Hospitallers of the Holy Spirit by Bishop Jan Prandota in 1244 and expanded in the brick Gothic style . At the same time, the hospitallers built a hospital and a parish. The Gothic Holy Spirit Church stood next to the church until the 19th century . The Holy Spirit Church and the hospital building are no longer preserved. The early Gothic parish still exists and is considered one of the oldest preserved Gothic buildings in Krakow.
Works of art
The interior of the church rests on a single Gothic palm column. The walls are adorned with late Gothic frescoes. The interior of the church was baroque in 1683–1684 in the style of high baroque.
