The Roman Catholic former hospital church Heilig Geist is a Gothic hall church in Neuötting in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting . It belongs to the Neuötting Parish Association in the Altötting Dean's Office of the Diocese of Passau and is supported by the Heilig-Geist-Spitalstiftung Neuötting.

History and architecture

The hospital church was built around 1500 with the addition of a chapel to the south from 1423 and is structurally connected to the hospital buildings. In the north stands the tower with an octagonal upper floor and pointed helmet. On the outside, the two altar rooms are combined to form a three-sided end. Inside, the two-bay choir has moved in and closes with a three-eighths closure . The choir bays are open to the south to the side chapel, the smaller chancel belonging to it is provided with a three-sided end and shows thicker net ribs over octagonal services in the vault . Two-lane tracery windows illuminate the interior.

The three-bay nave was given a net vault in place of the previous flat ceiling by Ruprecht Kuchlmeister in 1591. The renovation date 1660 can be found on the choir arch. A gallery over arched arcades with later parapets is built into the west.

Furnishing

The rich high altar was moved here from the Dominican Church in Landshut in 1789 . As a center image is a Lady of the Snows - icon used of the 15th century, after the miraculous image in Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome was designed. The painting on the altarpiece shows St. Stephen and was executed by Zacharias Lehrhuber in 1770. Carved figures of St. Rupert and Nicholas from the 15th century can be found in the choir. Late Rococo paintings in elaborate carved frames with depictions of the Holy Trinity and St. Donatus are attached to the choir walls . There is a Gothic font at the north entrance. A red marble grave slab commemorates the founder Wilhelm von Fraunhofen († 1423). In the chapel there are paintings of the Apostles' Cross from the 16th century and carved busts of the Fourteen Holy Helpers from the 18th century.

The organ is a work by Franz Borgias Maerz from 1888 with five stops on a manual and pedal .
