The Heiligenberg tunnel in the central Rödelbachtal, southwest of Straßberg , is a water solution tunnel in the Harz region . The visible remains of the tunnel in the Lower Harz are now called Heiligenbergsquelle . This is about 200 meters north of the Malinius pond .

The water solution took place via the middle slope ditch, which no longer exists today . The mouth of the tunnel is now exactly between Rödelbachgraben and Stollgraben , the water seeps into a meadow drained by the Rödelbach.

history

The year the water solution gallery started operating is unknown, but is before 1610. The Heiligenberger Pingenfeld above the spring, running southeast, indicates very early mining in this area. The tunnel released the pit water from the ore mines in the Heiligenberg district on the Großer Heiligenberg . The loosened water was formerly channeled over the middle slope ditch into the underground cycle art of the flat Neuhaus-Stolberg art shaft , where it was used to drive further water wheels.

In 1857 the tunnel was abandoned and built. The mouth hole is only recognizable as a source . Only on closer inspection can the old tunnel be guessed. In the past there have been several attempts to set up a mineral water factory here . This is probably the reason why the name of the tunnel disappeared and why it is only known as the Heiligenbergsquelle. The attempts all failed because of the excessive iron content of the escaping mine water.
