The Stollgraben , in the Unterlauf (Straßberger) rafts , obsolete upper Rödelbachgraben and incorrectly also called Rieschengraben or Röschengraben , is an old artificial ditch in Straßberg and part of the Lower Harz pond and ditch system in the Harz mining region .

description

The first documentary mention in the Straßberger land register as the upper Rödelbachgraben with village frogs (today Stadtweger Rösche ) dates from 1610 . The year of construction is not known, but should not be much earlier than 1610.

The beginning of the tunnel is at the Frankenteich . The ditch now follows the 415 m contour line as a slope ditch parallel to the contour line . Shortly before it flows north a little above the Maliniusteich , the brook from the Kohlberg crosses at the foot of the Großer Heiligenberg . Behind the Maliniusteich, the Stollgraben approaches the Rödelbach up to 50 meters, but then flows a little further east following the contour line, until it enters the Stadtweger Rösche . After 800 meters the Rösche ends and the trench continues above ground.

From the mouth of the Stadtweger Rösche, the ditch is called the Straßberger Raft . Shortly below the Stadtweger Rösche, from around 1693 (resumption of mining in the Straßberger area), the Glasebach feed ditch branched off , which led water from the Stollgraben into the Glasebach valley to the wheel chamber of the Glasebach pit . The remaining water flowed over the preserved watercourse to the town of Straßberg, where it was used as impact water for Straßberger stamping works. Water could also be channeled through a ditch (today the uppermost Poetenweg) to the Seigerschacht of the Neuhaus-Stolberg mine at Wickenhöfen .

Rest area at the rafts

The trench continues from here with a significantly greater gradient than before entering the Rösche, often over private property.

At the foot of the Flößberg there is a small resting place on the raft with a small undershot water wheel . In the absence of a mining fir or a sign, the reason for the water wheel is not clear. The site plan of water management systems in road mountain area (after a Krause 1987) after this is but probably the site of a former art shaft . Around 1750 another ditch flowed into the Stollgraben in this area. This ditch branched off from the Glasebach shortly after the Treuen neighboring pond and cut two of its natural tributaries at the source.

A few hundred meters later, after passing the Kochsberg , the raft flows into the Selke on the right at an altitude of around 405 m, at flow kilometers 56.0.

During the rehabilitation of the Kiliansteiche and the associated creation of the Kiliansteich dam, the preservation of the trench was ensured by a constant water discharge of 4 l / s.
