The St. Ulrich and Afra basilica houses the healing chamber

The healing chamber of Augsburg is located in the St. Ulrich and Afra basilica . The medieval reliquary of the former Benedictine monastery and imperial minster is collected here. The healing chamber was blessed on the occasion of the Afra jubilee year 2004 on April 23rd in the former Gregorkapelle (from 1480) of the building. The treasures are displayed in five showcases .

Exhibits

Valuable pieces are among others

  • the Ulrichskreuz , which, according to tradition, is made from the wood of Christ's cross and which helped Bishop Ulrich to win the battle on the Lechfeld in 955. The splinter was secured in a silver cross around 1320 and this in turn adorned with gold and precious stones in 1494.
  • Ulrich's chalice and Ulrich's relics
  • Ulrich's robes, which were recovered from the grave of the bishop who died in 973 after a church fire in 1183. The garment made from Byzantine silk fabrics is one of the best preserved older textiles in the world.
  • Finds from early Christian clergy graves

To protect the centuries-old objects, 95 percent of the daylight is filtered out.
