The local history museum in Oberstdorf im Allgäu is located in the Köcherlerhaus. The Oberstdorf farmhouse was built in 1620 and is one of the few in the town center that was spared the great fire of 1865. From 1862 to 1908 it housed a village dairy . In 1932 the local history museum was set up in the historic premises and later expanded to 38 rooms. In summer 2013 the facade of the building was renovated. When the shingles from the 19th century were removed, the original beams from the 17th century were found behind them in a knitted bond , a special corner connection in block construction.

In the low rooms with paneled ceilings and walls there are exhibits on handicrafts, agriculture and alpine farming , hunting , alpinism , music and customs . Objects that were essential for the inhabitants of the village to live and survive can also be viewed here. In addition, there are annually changing special exhibitions in the cellar of the local history museum. The most important exhibit is the largest leather ski boot in the world, cobbled by court shoemaker Josef Schratt in 1950.
