The home association for the Steinburg district e. V., based in Itzehoe, is a district association of the Schleswig-Holsteinischer Heimatbund (SHHB) with around 1000 members.

history

The home association was founded in 1934. The purpose of the association was the “care and understanding of the Nordic culture”, as it is formulated according to the statutes. The goals are implemented in numerous activities. The “ Steinburger Jahrbuch ” has been published since 1957 , and year after year it is devoted to a different focus. For example, the 2013 Steinburg yearbook deals with the protests surrounding the Brokdorf nuclear power plant.

In the winter half of the year, the association offers six lectures with cultural and local history content, such as the "Industrial History of Schleswig-Holstein" or the "Change in rural living in the late 19th century". Every year, two study trips are offered as day trips. In the home association there are various working groups that deal with cultural-historical, archaeological, linguistic ( Low German ) and botanical topics. For many years, the Heimatverband (Heimatverband ) has attached panels to monuments in the district such as churches, town halls, palaces and town houses (e.g. Sonnin Church, Brockdorff Palais , Old Town Hall Wilster) that provide information about the building. The activities of this working group have prompted numerous Steinburg parishes to write local chronicles. In a national comparison, the Steinburg district has the most local chronicles. The home association is also Foundation for the County Museum Prinzeßhof in Itzehoe.
