Antoine Camilleri (born August 20, 1965 in Sliema ) is a Maltese clergyman, diplomat of the Holy See and Roman Catholic Archbishop.

Life

Antoine Camilleri was ordained a priest on July 5, 1991 .

He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1999 and worked at the nunciatures in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (1999–2002), Uganda (2002–05) and Cuba (2005–06). Since 2007 he has been working in the Vatican State Secretariat for relations with the states and as Dominique Mamberti's deputy .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 22, 2013 as Undersecretary of the Section for Relations with States of the State Secretariat.

On September 3, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Skálholt and apostolic nuncio . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on October 4th of the same year. Co-consecrators were Cardinal State Secretary Pietro Parolin and the Cardinal Prefect of the Dicastery for Integral Human Development , Peter Turkson .

On October 31, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Ethiopia and Djibouti , Special Envoy to the African Union and Apostolic Delegate in Somalia .

He speaks seven languages ​​including Russian , Portuguese and Romanian .
