history
The Siebengebirge Heimatverein was founded on January 12, 1926 in Königswinter as a working group to look after the homeland. This makes it the second oldest homeland club in the Rhein-Sieg district. The trigger for the foundation was the organization of the millennium of the Rhineland in 1925 by a festival committee. The Catholic dean and pastor Leopold Schlösser was appointed first chairman. Another founder and vice chairman until his death was the Protestant pastor and superintendent Ernst Rentrop (1868–1937).
Right from the start, the association collected historically interesting objects, pictures, publications and documents from the region. Part of the collection is on display in the Siebengebirgsmuseum in Königswinter. The association maintains a publicly accessible library, a photo archive and an archive. The collection includes pictures by the Königswinter painter Franz Ittenbach and books by Wolfgang Müller von Königswinter, who was also born in Königswinter . The association almost completely owns the issues of the local newspapers "Echo des Siebengebirge" (1873–1975), "Königswinterer Zeitung" and "Siebengebirgs-Zeitung" (1961–2004) as well as other gray literature from the region.
The seat of the association is the Siebengebirgsmuseum in Königswinter. Burkhard Rinkens has been the chairman of the association since 2018.
