Heinke Jenkins

Heinke Jenkins also: Jenkins-Mayer (born July 2, 1937 in Heilbronn , German Reich ) is a British painter and graphic artist .

Life

She grew up as Heinke Mayer in Heilbronn and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Manfred Henninger and at the Higher Graphic School in Stuttgart illustration and graphics with Leo Schobinger. In 1959 Mayer joined the Heilbronn Artists' Association . In 1961 she married a British man and has lived near Birmingham ever since . She is a member of the Royal Birmingham Society for Artists and the Royal British Artists' Society for Wood engravers and Printers .

In addition to participating in exhibitions at the annual exhibitions of the Heilbronner Künstlerbund and the Royal Academy in London, works by her have been shown in solo exhibitions in Germany, England and the USA. Several of their works have been bought by the public sector, including a. from the city of Heilbronn and the city of Stuttgart. Jenkins specialized in the woodcut technique and illustrated numerous books and magazines. Her woodcut motif The Whispering (1965) was the frontispiece to the book Fritz Karl Michael Hillenbrand: Underground humor in Nazi Germany, 1933–1945 .
