Heinrich Bützler (born January 20, 1862 in Bergisch Gladbach ; † January 11, 1936 in Cologne ) was a teacher and historian from Kalk .

Life

Heinrich Bützler was born on January 20, 1862 in Bergisch Gladbach and, according to the local parish chronicle, has lived in the Cologne suburb of Kalk since he was nine years old . He belonged to the Roman Catholic Church . At the age of about 20 he was a teacher at a Catholic school in Kalk. A marriage with his wife Clara had five children. In 1898, a training school for apprentices comparable to today's vocational school was set up in Kalk . In April 1903 Bützler became rector of this "vocational school" and remained so until his retirement in 1927.

When the city of Kalk was incorporated into Cologne in 1910 , he published the “History of Kalk and Surroundings”, which was also the first historical work about today's Cologne district. He retired on April 1, 1927. He died on January 11, 1936 in his apartment at Wiesbergstrasse 41 in Kalk. Heinrich-Bützler-Strasse in Cologne was named after him.

Career as a teacher

As already mentioned, Heinrich Bützler was a teacher at a Catholic school in Kalk at the age of 20 around 1882/83. His first class consisted of 82 students, other teachers (including the well-known teacher Welsch ) had even more school children. In order to cope with the overcrowding, new schools were built in Kalk or older buildings were converted, but this did not do much due to the rapidly growing population of Kalk:

"For years there were classes with 70, 80 and more students."

- Heinrich Bützler

He became headmaster of the school on March 19, 1901. In 1898, a "training school", very similar to today's vocational school , was opened in Kalk . On April 1, 1903, he was appointed principal of this school. He was commissioned to develop curricula for students from various professions. His curricula met with great approval at the advanced training events in Leipzig in 1904. From 1903 he offered his students optional French lessons. In order to enable effective learning, he never let the classes exceed 35 students. In the heyday of his school, it offered many professions . In 1907 the school had 667 students. He retired on April 1, 1927.

Engagement in lime

Heinrich Bützler was also active in the parish of St. Marien. Among other things, he was involved in the church choir as a singing teacher. In 1905 he was elected to the board of the newly founded Catholic citizens' association. On the occasion of his 40th professional anniversary and his ecclesiastical services, he was awarded the papal order Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice in 1922 . In 1923 he wrote a "Kalker Jubiläumslied" (Kalker Jubilee Song) due to the 500th anniversary of the Kalker Marien shrine.

Acting as a chronicler

When the city of Kalk was incorporated into Cologne in 1910 , he published the “History of Kalk and Surroundings”, which was also the first historical work about today's Cologne district. The history of Kalk is told there on the basis of many details. This also served as the basis for further requirements.
