Heinrich Clausen

Heinrich Clausen (born September 20, 1879 in Verden (Aller) ; † September 24, 1966 ) was a German local politician ( SPD ) / (SED) , bookseller, publisher, photographer and restaurateur.

Life

Clausen comes from what is now Lower Saxony . Before the First World War he ended up in the Harz Mountains , where from then on he moved to Schierke , which was then known as “St. Moritz des Nordens “named health resort at the foot of the Brocken, found his place of work. At first he worked as a waiter or head waiter in the hotel on the 1141 m high Brocken , but soon became self-employed as a restaurateur and pension operator, where he took over and closed the community jug ("Clausen-Gastwirtschaft", today house number 49) a pension ("Haus Clausen") expanded. Later he also took over the local Faust bookstore, founded in 1910, in which he founded his own publishing house, in which he a. a. also published his own photos on postcards from Schierke and the surrounding area. These have now become coveted collectibles, as they document the state of the Brocken area before the Second World War .

In 1918 Heinrich Clausen was one of the co-founders of the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council in Schierke, whose deputy chair he took over. In 1919 he received a mandate for the SPD in the district council of Wernigerode . When in 1921 the community of Schierke from the former princely manor district of Schierke was founded, he became a member of the community council. In the following years Heinrich Clausen was elected several times for the SPD in the district council of Wernigerode. In April 1933 the SPD parliamentary group was banned and Heinrich Clausen was expelled from the community and district council. Clausen suffered reprisals during the Nazi regime.

After the end of the Second World War, Heinrich Clausen was appointed mayor of Schierke on May 9, 1945. As mayor, he moved to neighboring Elend in July 1945 , where he served until July 1948. In both places he played a significant role in rebuilding the new administrative structures and in supplying the population after the war.

Heinrich Clausen died four days after his 87th birthday in 1966.
