Heinrich Georg von Boguslawski

Heinrich Georg von Boguslawski (* December 7, 1827 in Groß-Rake near Breslau ; † May 4, 1884 in Berlin ) was a German hydrographer and section head at the Hydrographic Institute of the Imperial Admiralty in Berlin.

Heinrich Georg von Boguslawski was the son of the astronomer Palm Heinrich Ludwig von Boguslawski and his wife Auguste Wolff. After completing his studies, Boguslawski was initially a senior teacher in Berlin, Anklam and Stettin, before he was finally appointed head of section in the Hydrographic Office of the Imperial Admiralty in Berlin in 1874. In addition, by editing the “Nachrichten für Seefahrer” (1874–84) and the Annals of Hydrography and Maritime Meteorology (1875–84), he was instrumental in promoting maritime meteorology and oceanography . In 1884 Boguslawski published the first volume of a manual of oceanography with the subtitle Spatial, physical and chemical composition of the oceans , which Otto Krümmel completed with the second volume with the title: The forms of movement of the sea in 1887. Boguslawski was a board member of the Society for Geography .

Heinrich Georg von Boguslawski was married to Emma Kuntze (1830–1899), daughter of a hut director, since 1856. The marriage remained childless.

Boguslawski died in Berlin in 1884 at the age of 56 and was buried in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Schöneberg . The grave has not been preserved.
